Nevada Registered Agent Requirements (2026)

Every Nevada LLC must keep a registered agent on file from the day the Articles of Organization are accepted until the day the company dissolves. The requirement sits in NRS 86.231, which provides that the company "shall have a registered agent who must have a street address for the service of process." The mechanics, meaning who may serve and what address qualifies, live in NRS Chapter 77, Nevada's adoption of the Model Registered Agents Act. Older Nevada paperwork sometimes says "resident agent"; it is the same role.

What the Statutes Require

Who Can Serve (NRS 77.310)

Nevada recognizes three ways to fill the role:

  1. A commercial registered agent, a professional agent listed with the Secretary of State. Anyone serving as agent for 10 or more entities must register as a commercial agent under NRS 77.320.
  2. A noncommercial registered agent, an individual or a domestic or foreign entity that agrees to serve.
  3. The LLC itself, by designating the title of an office or position within the entity as its own agent, provided the company has a physical Nevada address.

Changing Your Nevada Registered Agent

Switching agents is a single filing: the Registered Agent Acceptance / Statement of Change of Registered Agent by Represented Entity under NRS 77.340, submitted to the Nevada Secretary of State's Commercial Recordings Division on paper or through SilverFlume, with a $60 fee. The official form is on the Secretary of State's registered agent forms page. When you switch to us, we prepare the change paperwork as part of onboarding.
